ALER attends the Africa Climate Summit 2

Last week, Mayra Pereira (President of ALER) attended the Africa Climate Summit 2 in Ethiopia. With a program full of panels and sessions dedicated to climate and the energy transition, the event brought together African leaders, international institutions, civil society representatives, and the private sector to discuss solutions for shaping a green and resilient future in Africa.

“The Africa Climate Summit represents a turning point for redefining Africa’s role in global climate governance. For Portuguese-speaking African countries, this is the moment to assert a coordinated and strategic presence, promoting solutions based on our local knowledge, our socio-economic realities, and the potential of our natural resources. By articulating common positions and investing in our own capacities, we will not only be able to respond to climate challenges but also actively contribute to building a new, fairer, and multipolar environmental order”, highlighted Mayra Pereira.

The Addis Ababa Declaration consolidated Africa’s unity regarding climate finance, resilience, and a just transition, ensuring that the continent heads into COP30 with clarity and ambition.

At this event, ALER reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with governments, companies, and partners, and to strengthening regional cooperation. We are committed to positioning Portuguese-speaking countries as key players in the global energy transition and climate resilience.
